Artist's description: In this cityscape, the colourful lyrical skies represent collective dreams and desires drifting and sparkling above a brutalist concrete jungle. A tribute to the colourful power of imagination as a relief from everyday life urban greyness but also to the challenges and inputs to inner growth and self-discovery that life in the big city can expose to.
The piece was made using recycled materials found in skips and bin stores: reused wooden panels and canvas, discarded wall paint leftovers, glitter recycled and paper cut-outs.
Most glitter products are made from plastic, which is a huge problem for marine life. When glitter is washed down the drain, it becomes part of the growing problem of "microplastics," which are consumed by plankton, fish, and birds, and have a detrimental impact. Animals often die because of the build-up in their systems. As a result, some scientists and campaigners are calling for a total ban on glitter.
