Artist's description: My tribute to Faith Ringgold, artist, activist and writer, best known for her narrative quilts during the Harlen Renaissance. The sunflowery background is inspired by one of her works, The Sunflower Quilting Bee at Arles, which in turn, was inspired by Van Goghs sunflowers (he's also represented in her quilt, taking flowers to the eight powerful African American women from the past and present).
