Artist Lixandro Cordero, born in Cuba and now residing in British Columbia, takes his audience to beautiful surreal and astral realms usually attainable only through dreams. His artwork, characterized by the use of flowing lines and rich colors, transport the viewer to a magical world, filled with fantastical characters. A gorgeous place, pulsing with life and beauty, where one can witness his amazing talent developed through years of hard work and lots of imagination and magic... A graduate of "El Alba Fine Arts School", a top fine arts academy in Holguín, Cuba, Lixandro spent various years perfecting his drawing and painting skills, while also teaching at El Alba Fine Arts School in Holguín from 2000-2005. Starting in 2004, he began a new journey with the dream of becoming a 3D animator. This dream brought him to Canada in 2008, where he began his studies at the Vancouver Film School, where he graduated from in 2009. Lixandro's work, which has been juried and exhibited in Cuba, South Africa, Italy, France and Mexico, features a variety of mediums including drawing with sanguine and Conte, Watercolors, Oils, and most recently acrylics. "I'm currently in a watercolor rage because it is fresh and immediate. However, I also enjoy the process of an oil painting, which usually takes many work sessions. When I have no commitments, I enjoy working on a series of personal paintings that serve as my sanctuary and allow me to experiment and grow." Although his themes revolve around the magical, Lixandro finds inspiration throughout his daily life. "I enjoy the little things, taking lots of photos on my way to work or back home, or wherever I see something that catches my eye, be it a cloud or a dying flower. There is magic everywhere, and I try to include it in my work. I love lines, I draw a great deal, and although sometimes it is a hard decision to put color on a particular piece, the end result is very rewarding."
